Warhawks split doubleheader against Reinhardt

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Auburn Montgomery baseball team split its Tuesday doubleheader against Reinhardt University, as the Eagles took game one 9-1 and the Warhawks bouncing back for an 11-7 victory in the night cap.

With the split, the Warhawks now stand at 8-10 on the season, while Reinhardt is now 14-4 on the year.

Bryan Young and Hayden Hillyer led AUM offensively, collecting four hits each. Lance Wilson and Michael Radoslovich added three hits, while P.J. Leto recorded a pair of doubles.

After dropping the opener and surrendering three runs in the top of the first inning, AUM put up five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Blake Bearden delivered the big blow of the inning with a two-run single, while Young, Hillyer and Leto also collected RBIs.

The Warhawks added two runs in the second inning, one when Radoslovich knocked a run-scoring double and another on the second RBI by Hillyer in as many innings.

AUM extended its lead with three runs in the third inning, with Trevor Sprowl driving in a pair of runs and Wilson adding a run batted in. The Warhawks capped their scoring in the fourth on a RBI single by Brett Wellman.

The Eagles added three runs in the fifth inning to provide the final margin. At the conclusion of the game, eight of AUM's nine starting hitters recorded a RBI.

Britt Wilson earned the victory, tossing four innings and allowing six runs and four hits. Chad Reeves earned the save after working the final three innings effectively.

Luke Maxwell took the loss after allowing five runs in his lone inning of work. Tyler Adams led the Eagles at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

In the opener, Matt Kaiser and Eli Dickens each had three hits, while Kaiser and Dusty Davis drove in a pair of runs, as Reinhardt never trailed in the victory.

The Warhawks avoided the shutout when Radoslovich plated Wilson with a single in the third inning.

Jacob Gibson (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing four runs in three innings. Trent Sheffield earned the victory with four one-run innings.

The Warhawks return to Southern States Athletic Conference play Friday, when they travel to Bethel the opener of a three-game set. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
