SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

The docks at Goose Pond Resort in JacksonCounty are about to get a facelift, thanks to a partnership with the TennesseeValley Authority.

The refurbishment of the docks was a neededchange, but they are changes that will also benefit anglers and other lakeusers who face disabilities.

The $50,000 project is currently underway atGoose Pond Colony. The TVA and the municipally-owned resort have partnered inthe past to refurbish the docks at the bait-and-tackle courtesy pier.

Built 40 years ago, the docks host more than60 fishing tournaments a year, including the Paralyzed Vets of America BassTour, which is sponsored by the Department of Defense. Officials said it onlymade sense to make the pier compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

"I think it improves access to the lake,"said General Manager Lyle Sosebee. "We like to make sure that people can accessit and use it any way that they can."

Much of the work will be put on hold due tothe fishing tournament season, but officials expect it to be completed sometimethis fall.
