Making a Difference: Montgomery woman pays it forward

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Not long ago Debby Thomas was touched by grace.

Today, Thomas is returning the favor by helping those who are experiencing the barren winter in their lives, broken lives because of addictions or abuse at home.

"It's that outpouring of love," Thomas said.

Reality and Truth Ministries is a day-treatment program for the homeless on South Court Street in Montgomery. It's opened seven days a week and serves around 200 people a month.

This is a place where the homeless can get a shower, free clothes and a good meal. It's been a life-changing event for Debby Thomas.

"Touching peoples lives is never a waste of your time and energy," Thomas said.

Once a week Thomas helps with Bible studies, washes clothes and lends a hand in feeding the hungry at Reality and Truth Ministries.

Debby Thomas has been a registered nurse for 28 years. Little did Thomas know when she started out, her service to her fellow man would take on a different meaning 28 years later.

Whether it's at Prattville Baptist Hospital, where Thomas works, or at the mission Thomas is doing what she does best--nourishing a body, comforting a soul.
