SECTION, AL (WAFF) -
DeKalb County investigators arrested 31-year-old Daniel Edmond Nixon, of Section, on charges of enticing a child to enter a vehicle for immoral purposes.
Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Nixon was arrested Thursday afternoon when investigators stopped him on his way to pick up a 14-year-old girl.
Nixon is an Alabama Department of Transportation employee and was in a state truck when he was pulled over.
The girl's parents contacted investigators after they found out their daughter was talking to a man on the internet. They turned the teen's phone over to authorities after they found disturbing information on it.
After being alerted by the girl's parents, deputies said they were able to set up a sting at a nearby school with an undercover DeKalb County deputy dressed as a teenager. Authorities said Nixon pulled up to the school and took off when he realized the undercover deputy wasn't the teen.
Investigators said Nixon was using at least one fake Facebook account, posing as a male teenager to communicate with females while maintaining a personal account that had normal activity on it. The fake account had more than 200 friends, all of whom were female.
Investigators also seized evidence that had dozens of young females in various sex acts. The evidence was sent to the FBI for forensic evaluation.
Nixon was also charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after drugs were found in the ALDOT vehicle. Investigators also found sex toys in the truck.
ALDOT is aware of Nixon's arrest and they retrieved the truck he was driving. Nixon was placed on mandatory leave for misuse of state equipment.
More charges are likely after a review of all of the evidence, said Sheriff Harris.
