SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the Forest Park area just after midnight Friday and found a sophisticated marijuana garden containing more than 160 plants.

When officers arrived to 129 Appleton St. they found 34-year-old Son Hong Nguyen outside of the residence, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

"Yup I did it, take me to jail," Nguyen, who did not want officers entering his residence, stated to police.

Officers went inside to check on the victim, who said an argument ensued after she heard Nguyen having sexual relations with another woman in the basement. The verbal argument then turned violent, and Nguyen began to kick the victim, Delaney said.

Police checked the basement, and although there was no sign of another victim, officers did find a marijuana garden with hydroponic lights and a feeding system in full operation. There was also an electrical system wired to the lights, which were running 24 hours a day, Delaney said.

Officers confiscated all 162 plants and growing paraphernalia. Narcotics detectives estimated the grow operation to be valued at $100,000, Delaney said.

Son Hong Nguyen was charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and domestic assault and battery, according to an arrest report.
