Brantley girls beat Loachapoka for repeat 1A title

Payton Burnett had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Brantley to its second consecutive Class 1A girls title with a 43-31 victory over Loachapoka on Friday.

Amahni Upshaw, who earned tournament MVP honors for the second straight year, finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Brantley (27-5).  Loachapoka (27-3) made just 12 of 49 field goals (24.5 percent) and only led once in the opening minutes.

Brantley, which won its first state title last season, shot 42.4 percent (14 of 33) from the field. Upshaw made 7 of 13 free throws.

Nautika Philpot finished with eight points and six rebounds and Keremi Vinson had seven points and seven rebounds for Loachapoka.

Upshaw and Burnett were joined on the all-tournament team by Vinson and Philpot. Falkville's Autumn Eddy and Woodville's Kelsi Sisk also made the team.
