TROY, Ala. – Troy men's basketball (9-18, 4-11 SBC) fell at home to UALR (13-15, 8-8 SBC), 62-55 at Trojan Arena on Thursday night.  With Texas State and South Alabama also losing on Thursday, the Trojans remain in a tie for the eighth and final spot in the Sun Belt Tournament.

"The last two days we focused on the defensive end. We said, ‘Guys, we've got to have some defensive urgency as a team,'" head coach Phil Cunningham said. "Out of these four teams battling to get to New Orleans, the teams that are going to get there are the teams that step up defensively. And we were OK defensively."

UALR got up early and led throughout.  Troy would tie the game up twice, including once in the second half, but eventually fell by seven.  Troy struggled controlling the basketball, finishing with 20 turnovers, the second most in a single game this season.

Troy's defense was the bright spot on the night, allowing just 62 points, the third fewest in a conference game this season.  Troy also forced 18 turnovers, the second most it has forced all season.

Antoine Myers hit an incredible circus layup midway through the second half to cut the lead to just one and tied it up at the foul line.  UALR then took over, going on a 10-2 run to regain the lead.

Tevin Calhoun had an excellent game, scoring 16 points, but fouled out with 7:26 to play.  Jeff Mullahey and Hunter Williams each chipped in with 12 points.

Troy shot 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the field and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from beyond the arc.  Troy was just 15-of-25 (60 %) from the charity stripe.

Troy sits in a tie with Texas State for the eighth and final spot in the Sun Belt Tournament, just one game ahead of South Alabama.  Each team has three games remaining.

Next up for the Trojans is a trip to Monroe, La., to take on ULM.  Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
