Prattville's High Point Town Center still struggling as other shopping centers boom

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

The sprawling High Point Town Center in Prattville continues to struggle. Born out of controversy, it is a retail project that plunged the city into deep debt, a fall against a faltering economy of which no one saw coming.

One shopper explained that it's such a beautiful place and can't understand why it hasn't filled up with businesses.

The center is currently home to JC Penny, Bass Pro Shop, Belk, Best Buy, and several other companies, and there is some good news. Several more businesses are signing leases.

But a large number of empty storefronts still line the complex's streets.

While High Point struggles, the same can't be said for a smaller, brand new shopping center nearby.
