MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The staff at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Montgomery says they'll continue to carry on the work of the man who left his mark on the entire congregation- their leader, Senior Pastor Glen Pugh.

"He was such a great man," said Associate Minister Emily Kincaid. "He was always very encouraging and very complimentary and he was always very quick to give praise."

The 51-year-old lost his life Wednesday morning on Interstate 85 South when his pick-up truck struck the back of an 18-wheeler near the Shorter exit in Macon County. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The fatal accident dealt a blow to his church and members are leaning on one another for support.

"He was the leader of this faith community and he poured his heart and his soul into this community. Getting to work alongside Glen for nearly the last four years- it was a joy and an honor. He was our boss but it wasn't like that. We served alongside of him and we're glad to have had the opportunity to do that," said Associate Pastor Tony Jeck.

A prayer service for Pugh was held Wednesday night and staff members are writing letters to his family so they know how much he's meant to those he's worked with and ministered to.

"He wanted to honor God in all the things that he did and so that's what we're going to try to do through this process while we honor Glen and the person that he was," Kincaid added.

Pugh was appointed to the church in July 2010. WSFA interviewed him last year when Aldersgate Church celebrated its 110th year in Montgomery.

"It's a very rich experience to be a part of a church that has such a rich history that has been doing ministry for so long and has such a love for missions and reaching out into the community," Pugh told WSFA during the celebration.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. No additional details have been released.

Pugh is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, Carla, as well as two children, Hunter and Hillary.

We're told his family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.
