MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - An associate publisher and longtime advertising representative for The Marietta Daily Journal has died. He was 85.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1kyyfdS) that Jay Whorton died Monday at WellStar Kennestone Hospital after a long illness.
The Daily Journal reports that Whorton was well-known in Cobb County and sold ads for 45 years -- and still sold ads from his hospital bed late last week.
Marietta Daily Journal Publisher Otis Brumby III said the organization is a better company and Cobb County is a better community because of Whorton.
Whorton was born in Dutton, Ala. He started in the newspaper business in 1955, as an assistant to the president of the Southern Newspaper Group.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Marietta.
