City of Prattville holds ceremony for new Creekwalk Trail section

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) -

A Ribbon cutting ceremony was held today for the opening of the extended Prattville Creekwalk Trail.

The newest section of the trial extends from downtown Prattville, goes behind the library, through Pratt Park and ends at the wooden bridge behind the American Legion Post on Doster Road.

The new extension was made possible through a grant of $14,350 that the ADECA awarded to the Autauga Creek Improvement Committee in February for the materials needed. The City of Prattville Engineering Department provided the construction services.

The original Creekwalk was established in April 2006. The second phase, which includes the decking that connects to Bridge Street, was completed in 2009. In April 2010, a historical marker was placed at the Creekwalk denoting the history of Autauga Creek.

The City of Prattville and the ACIC hope to continue the expansion, in the future, to run the length of the Autauga Creek Canoe Trail.
