Heads shaved to fight cancer

Posted: Updated:
Tucson, AZ -

The Coaches Against Cancer Shave Off was held Wednesday night at the Ann Kathryn Schmidt Kickin' It Clubhouse located at Brandi Fenton Park.

Tucson Soccer Academy coaches and administrators - among others - including our very own David Kelly and players from the TSA '03 Boys team, got their hair shaved off to help fund childhood cancer research.

TSA teams and individuals have raised nearly $10,000 so far and the Arizona Youth Soccer Association has raised over $27,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

"This is a wonderful opportunity led by our youth soccer coaches and families to join in the fight against cancer affecting our kids," said TSA President Ted Schmidt, whose wife, Ann, passed away from breast cancer three years ago. "It is very fitting that this will be the first major community service project to be held at the Ann Kathryn Schmidt Kickin' It Clubhouse, named in honor of a woman who herself battled this disease with such dignity and grace."

Since 1999, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has raised millions to help benefit children with cancer. Visit http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/aysatucson for more information.
