MIAMI COUNTY, KS (KCTV) -
Three people are hurt after a school bus crashed earlier Thursday morning.
A bus and a Chevrolet Tahoe collided about 7 a.m. at 223 Street and Gardner Road in rural Miami County, toppling the bus on its side.
The bus driver's 2-year-old daughter was on board. She was not hurt.
The Miami County Sheriff's Department said the driver of the SUV tried to help the people out of the bus before first responders could arrive.
Two people in the SUV and the bus monitor were taken to area hospitals with no life-threatening injuries.
The bus from the Gardner-Edgerton School District was not carrying any students.
"Of course you always think the worst at that time of morning, that it is full of students. Actually, they were on their way to start picking up students, so we were lucky that it wasn't full of students," Sgt. Mike Early said.
The crash is under investigation. Officials are trying to determine if the bus driver failed to obey the stop sign.
Neighbors say that county officials removed two stop signs and turned the intersection into a two-way stop, which they believe has made it more dangerous.
