CHARDON, OH (WOIO) -

Faculty and staff at Chardon Schools were trained on new security methods on Thursday.

Motorola and School Safe donated about 250 radios, time and training to the 10 Chardon schools.

Administrators, teachers and staff have had two-way radios to talk to each other inside the school for quite some time, especially during an emergency. Now, they'll have an instantaneous connection to first responders.

The Chardon Schools Superintendent says not only will this improve communication with emergency responders, but also allow for communication between schools.

"Anytime we have an opportunity to enhance the security of our schools with equipment in place to support that initiative that's always a positive," says Superintendent Dr. Michael Hanlon, Jr.

Both sides of the partnership - Motorola and Chardon Schools - say this isn't a result of the deadly school shooting, but rather a sign of strong ties between community members, Motorola and School Safe.

Students Russell King, Jr., Demetrius Hewlin and Daniel Parmertor were killed by a student gunman at Chardon High School on Feb. 27, 2012.
