TUCSON – Arizona softball senior centerfielder Alex Lavine suffered a torn ACL in her left knee during the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader against Ball State on Tuesday. Lavine will miss the remainder of the season.

"The loss of Alex Lavine just absolutely breaks my heart," said head coach Mike Candrea. "This young lady has become a tremendous player through her dedication to hard work, no nonsense approach, competitive spirit, and strong commitment to this team. She was having an outstanding season and we will dearly miss her leadership in the outfield and her ability to make things happen on offense."

Lavine was hitting .459 in 37 at-bats, fourth highest average on the team. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native had a double and six RBI on the season.

"Right now, I'm trying to support my teammates in any way I can and help them get ready for Michigan on Friday," said Lavine.

The team will apply for a medical redshirt for Lavine in search of an additional year of eligibility after the season.
