KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Kansas City, Kansas firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a motel at 47th and State Avenue.

Forty of the 57 units at the Regency Inn were occupied. No one was injured.

The fire started about 8 a.m. Friday in an office area and spread to a laundry room. Firefighters had to cut through the roof to put out the flames.

It took nearly 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The motel lost power last night and called the electric company. Utility employees advised workers to replace two busted fuses. They got new fuses and installed them Friday morning. That's when motel staff heard a pop and saw smoke and flames.

The cause hasn't been officially determined, but it's believed to be electrical in nature.

The damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $1.2 million. The area Red Cross is assisting while the inn's management is moving them to another building.
