KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A Kansas City couple is moving out of their house, which isn't news. But, what the couple is doing after they lock up is.

"We're planning to visit every national park in the United States in a short period of time," Don Hafner said.

The Hafner's goal is 59 parks in 59 weeks. All they'll have with them is a brand new camper and some bare essentials. Much of the rest is going to charity as the couple puts their lives on hold for more than a year.

"This is all stuff that's going to the Salvation Army today. This is all stuff that's going into the camper," Hafner said.

Friday, Hafner was in the final stages of sorting through nearly all of his possessions as he and his wife, Shelly, get ready to hit the road.

"Twenty years from now you'll only regret the things you didn't do. The time is right, just make a decision and go for it," Don Hafner stated emphatically. "We've reached a point in our life where it's important to give back and not just take."

The Hafners said they'll take pictures along the way for a website documenting their experience. And, the couple said they'll be volunteering at many of the places they visit.

Don and Shelly are both working professionals in their mid-50s. They hope to let others know it's never too late or the wrong time to follow their heart.

"We want to encourage people to have a passion for something and find a way to fulfill it or at least pursue it," Don Hafner concluded.

The Hafners said they'll be on the road April 1.

The couple's tour will begin in Arkansas at Hot Springs National Park, and wrap up with their 59th national park visit on July 4th of 2015.
