LAWRENCE, KS (KCTV) -

A man is behind bars Saturday night, being held in connection with a Lawrence homicide that happened early in the morning.

About 3:10 a.m. Lawrence Police were called to a shooting at a duplex at 24th Street and Cedarwood Avenue, in the south central section of Lawrence. When officers arrived they found 39-year-old Patrick Roberts, the resident of the duplex, who'd been shot in the chest.

"It's scary, very scary, but I'm not shocked," Brenda Dillon said.

Dillon said she's fed up with the crime on her block.

"I'm moving I'm out of here, I mean it's gotten to be way too much," she said.

Roberts was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The homicide investigation is the city's second this year. Sergeant Trent McKinley said police are called to the neighborhood often and need to talk to anyone who saw what happened in the early morning hours.

"Several of the individuals that had been present at the home fled. Patrol officers got in the area and were able to stop two individuals, one of which we have now arrested in connection with this," McKinley said.

Police said shortly after 9 a.m., police arrested 29-year-old Dustin D. Walker for first-degree murder and took him to Douglas County Jail. He has not been charged for the crime.

According to court records, Walker has had a lengthy criminal past.

"We're still early in the investigation to talk about motive. We certainly have not wrapped up our investigation by any means," McKinley said. "We believe others were present so we're seeking information from the community."

Detectives continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or CrimeStoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
