Brush fire cut off power to hundreds in subdivision

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A brush fire, started by a downed power line, left hundreds in the dark Saturday night in Jackson.

Chief Fire Investigator Greg Travis said the large grass fire started in Presidential Hills when a tree fell on a power line.

Flames overtook a field on Abraham Lincoln Drive.

Entergy spokesman Joey Lee said 785 customers lost electricity for over two and a half hours.

The fire was brought under control around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night.

Fire crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
