KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Two Kansas City police officers had to be taken to the hospital after a driver crashed into their cruiser.

The two officers were riding in their patrol car heading south on The Paseo just before 10 p.m. Sunday.

Another driver in an SUV failed to obey the stop sign at 43rd Street, striking the police car and trapping both officers inside.

One officer suffered several injuries and is currently in serious but stable condition. The other officer sustained an arm injury and is expected to be released soon from the hospital.

"One of the officers was unconscious at the time. They extricated him from the vehicle," Sgt. Bill Mahoney said.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt. Police said charges are pending.
