AUM men's baseball wins series over Southern Poly

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The AUM men's baseball team took the series over No.18 Southern Poly over the weekend with a doubleheader sweep.

The Warhawks dropped the series opener 3-2 after three errors led to two unearned runs. Warhawks' pitcher Richard Nason tossed 145 pitches for a complete-game five hitter including six strikeouts and just two walks.

Seniors Lance Wilson and Blake Bearden had two hits each to lead the AUM offense, with Wilson scoring the lone RBI. Wilson also scored a run along with sophomore Brandon Pooler.

The two teams met for a doubleheader on Saturday where the Warhawks swept Southern Poly 2-1 and 13-4.

The Warhawks pitchers kept the trend going as Chad Reeves pitched a complete game in game one of the doubleheader. Daniel Farrar also tossed a complete game, throwing 142 pitches in the 13-4 victory.

In game one of the doubleheader, P.J. Leto singled up the middle bringing in Trevor Sprowl and Bryan Young for the winning scores. In game two, Blake Bearden hit a solo homerun to start the scoring and later in the inning Trevor Sprowl and Brandon Pooler added two-run hits to put the game out of reach.

The Warhawks are now 13-13 on the year, and 6-6 in conference play. The Warhawks' next game is Tuesday when they take on Talladega College in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
