HARTSELLE, AL (WAFF) -

An investigator is looking into a fire that destroyed a family home in Hartselle around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

When Harstelle firefighters arrived on the 3100 block of Huckaby Bridge Road, the house was fully involved. Firefighters said a family of four was inside when the fire started.

The homeowner told the fire chief that he woke up to smoke and got everyone out. Almost everyone got out okay, but one of their three pets didn't make it.

It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to extinguish the blaze. The home is a total loss. The fire also destroyed a vehicle parked outside.

Firefighters said the fire started on the south end of the home. A fire investigator is on his way to the scene.
