Social media is a big part of our lives these days. What can you do to protect your privacy and your children?

Attorney Whitney Gibson, a partner with the law firm Vorys' Cincinnati office, will discuss the following on Thursday's FOX19 Morning News:

  •  Anonymous apps are changing the social media culture for teens and young adults.
  •  The promise of anonymity is not guaranteed when someone posts harmful content.
  •  Several anonymous apps that are growing in popularity include:

*Whisper, an anonymous app where users share thoughts with the world, has close to 3 billion monthly page views.

*Secret, an anonymous app similar to Whisper, is also growing in popularity and has been a highlight at South By Southwest conference.

*Yik Yak is an anonymous app that is causing uproars at schools across the country for fostering cyberbullying.

Here important insights from Social Media Mania:

• Posts are never private or anonymous.
• Sharing inappropriate photos can lead to suspension, expulsion and a criminal record.
• 58 percent of children say someone has been mean online, 40 percent say it's happened twice but many are afraid to talk about it.
