SELMA, AL (WSFA) -
A man who, just days ago, finished a 10-year prison sentence only to land himself back in jail, faced a judge Thursday in Dallas County.
Jimmy Brown, 44, is charged with theft of property first degree, criminal mischief, two counts of attempting to allude a police officer and second degree assault on a police officer. During his court hearing, Brown was appointed an attorney and given a bond totaling $150,000.
Authorities say Brown, who had only been out of prison for a little over a week, stole a pick-up truck in Selma and led police on a three mile, high-speed chase.
"The suspect driving the vehicle struck one of our patrol units, causing that patrol unit to be disabled, and another patrol unit had to leave the roadway to avoid other accidents," Selma Police Criminal Investigations Division Commander Lt. Curtis Muhannad said.
Following the chase, authorities say Brown barricading himself inside his home, only to surrender after a K-9 unit was sent into the Dallas Avenue home.
"Upon the K-9 second warning, the suspect came to the front, turned himself in,"Lt. Muhannad add.
The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner, but authorities say it was heavily damaged.
Brown served 10 years in prison for receiving stolen property in Perry County.
District Attorney Michael Jackson says a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 22.
