TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa police officers captured two suspects just moments after they allegedly tried to break into a bait car on Thursday morning.

An alarm went off on one of the police department's bait cars around 10:55 a.m., so officers responded to where the car was parked in the 2400 block of Denny Street.

Once on the scene, officers spotted a man and a woman near the car and noticed the car's door was ajar.

The male suspect, 19-year-old Deandre Shonquez Lockett, and the female suspect, 22-year-old Lanetta Ann Toney, were detained and later questioned by criminal investigators.

Officials also found a stolen purse in the suspects' possession. Police said it was stolen from another vehicle in the 2300 block of Veterans Memorial Drive within the same hour that the bait car was broken into.

Investigators found probable cause to arrest the suspected duo on two counts of unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.

Both were placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $30,000 bond, according to a release from the police department.
