HALEYVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

Three girls who went missing Friday afternoon in Haleyville have been found safe, according to Mayor Ken Sunseri. He says an Alabama State Troopers helicopter located the trio at about 10:30 Friday night.

The girls, five, seven and 10 years old, were playing in a wooded area and became lost, said Sunseri.  He says the girls were located about a mile from their home. They were reunited with their parents and are doing okay.

The girls went missing about 4 p.m. but police weren't called until about 7:30 p.m., said Sunseri. Haleyville police and fire departments, along with others, had been searching since around 8 p.m.

"There's a creek and several bluffs that run through that area," Mayor Sunseri explained during a live interview on FOX6 News at 10:00 p.m. Friday.

The wooded area is off 12th Avenue near 16th Street, just south of downtown Haleyville.

The mayor says Russelville also sent a search dog to the scene.

The Winston County Sheriff's Office was on standby to help, if needed, as well.
