VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) -

Vestavia Hills police are investigating a bizarre case after a woman was found in a trash compactor at about 9 o'clock Friday night.

Lt. Brian Gilham says the woman's husband reported her missing earlier in the day.

A Birmingham police officer spotted her SUV, a white Jeep Cherokee, in parking lot of the Colonial Center on Blue Lake Drive. The location is near the Colonnade off Highway 280 at I-459.

Police K-9s were used to search the area and found her in a trash compactor.

Lt. Gilham says she was conscious and talking with police officers before being transported to UAB Hospital.

Police are investigating how she ended up in the trash compactor. They don't know the circumstances surrounding the incident or if foul play was involved. Police are not releasing the woman's name.
