A group of students at a Valley school stepped up to make a difference and their effort is growing. The Beta Club at Lee-New Century High School took on a service project to collect 5-thousand shoes to help people without in developing nations.
Saturday, students hit the pavement to encourage folks to pull over and donate. By Saturday afternoon, they had already managed to collect 15-hundred pairs from surrounding schools and the community. Student organizers said something we take for granted could change someone's life.
"We all probably have at least 10 pairs of shoes in our closet," said club member Cailin Simpson. "We go out and buy them to match our clothes, and we don't think about people who don't have those means in other countries."
The club still has a way to go to reach their ultimate goal of collecting 5-thousand shoes. If you're interested in donating, stop by New Century High School Monday through Wednesday to do your part.
