Jasper man airlifted to UAB after shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Jasper Police Department is looking for a shooting suspect after a man was injured on Saturday.

Police received a call around 4 a.m. of a person shot in a home at 2223 7th Place. At the scene, 57-year-old Charles Mitchell was found to be suffering from a gunshot to the chest. He was airlifted to UAB Hospital and was later listed as in stable condition.

Currently, investigators do not know what led to the shooting. Jasper Police Chief Connie Rowe says it may take a few days before an arrest is made, due to the victim being in the hospital.

Mitchell's friends sayhe has been robbed three times while living in the home. They believe thiswas another robbery attempt, since both doors to his home were kicked in. Jasperpolice have not confirmed if this was a robbery attempt.
