Victim killed in B'ham Hwy. crash now identified

The victim who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday on the Birmingham Highway is being identified by the Montgomery Police Department.

Timothy Carpenter, 59, of Prattville, was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision between his 2003 Chevy Malibu and a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis around 6:20 a.m.

Montgomery police and fire medics responded to the scene, on U.S. Highway 31 between the West Boulevard and Trinity Street, but were unable to save Carpenter's life.

The driver of the Mercury, who is not identified by name at this time, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation shows that Carpenter was driving on the wrong side of the highway when his vehicle collided with the Mercury.

Accident investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
