The Bengals on Monday re-signed safety Taylor Mays.

His contract with the Bengals expired March 11 and he was an unrestricted free agent.

Mays is in his fifth year in the NFL out of Southern California. He entered the NFL in 2010 as a second-round draft choice of San Francisco and was obtained by the Bengals in a 2011 trade.

Mays has 50 career NFL games played with 10 starts. He has 79 career tackles, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a blocked punt recovery for a touchdown.

He played in last season's first eight games, with one start, before suffering a season-ending shoulder dislocation on Oct. 20 at Detroit.
