KIRTLAND HILLS, OH (WOIO) -
An investigation is pending after Kirtland Hills Chief of Police was placed on paid administrative leave on Monday. Chief Gerald Smith left the office without incident and was escorted home.
Lawyer Virginia Davidson of Calfee Law Firm is handling the matter for Kirtland Hills.
Davidson tells 19 Action News Smith was placed on leave after a look at the village's financial records, specifically the village credit card and petty cash accounts.
The matter was been referred to federal authorities and a village council meeting has been planned for April 7 to discuss future plans.
Kirtland Hills officer Steve Payne is currently acting as police chief.
