WALKER COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Walker County Jail administrator says that two inmates attempted to escape the facility Wednesday evening.

Administrator Trent McCluskey says that a deputy saw two inmates get out of their cells and try to escape. He says that the inmates were caught and returned to jail.

The sheriff's office is consulting with the district attorney about filing charges.

McCluskey also says that jailers confiscated contraband material after someone threw it over the jail fence. The package has not been opened but it appears to be a tobacco product. Authorities are reviewing surveillance in the hopes of identifying the person who threw the material over the fence.
