The Alabama Senate has approved a $1.8 billion General Fund budget that increases funding for Medicaid and supports a one-time bonus of $400 for state employees.
The budget passed 30-2 Thursday evening and now goes back to the House, which approved a slightly different version.
Both versions included $70 million more, or an 11 percent increase, to maintain Medicaid services. The Senate's version includes $250,000 for the governor to hire an ombudsman to deal with problems at Tutwiler Prison for women in Wetumpka.
Gov. Robert Bentley says he supports that addition.
The House can't deal with the budget immediately because members are gone on spring break until April 1.
