PIKE CO., IN (WFIE) -

After pleading guilty to child neglect charges a Pike County woman got part of her sentence reduced, agreeing to wear a sign in front of the courthouse for an hour today.

Police say 28-year-old Jennifer Gist left her young children unsupervised twice. Once in July 2012 and again in May 2013.

Prosecutor Darrin McDonald says it teaches a lesson to both Gist and others.

"It's strange that a county would do a public humiliation," said Gist. "But I'm going to hold my head high. Hopefully somebody will learn from my mistake."

Gist's plea agreement also includes over 500 days of probation and nearly 130 hours of community service.
