Millbrook man remains in critical condition after home invasion

MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) -

The man who was suffered life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound during a home invasion/robbery over the weekend remains in critical but stable condition.

A check Monday with law enforcement indicates the man's condition remains unchanged.

Millbrook police officers were called to 4500 block of Lakeshore Drive around 3:20 a.m. Saturday on a report that someone had been shot. When the officers arrived, they were told that there was a knock at the door and when the homeowner opened the door, two males forced their way into the house at gunpoint.

Both suspects were wearing bandanas to conceal their faces according to police. One of the individuals, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, approached one of the occupants of the house and demanded money. Police say while the occupant was trying to give the suspect money, suspect fired a single shot, striking the occupant in the hand. The bullet then passed through the victim's hand and struck him in the upper torso.

"He was not resisting in any way," said Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson of the victim. "There was no reason whatsoever for this man to be shot."

Detective say the two suspects took cash from the three people in the house and fled the scene on foot.

The gunshot victim was treated at the scene and then transported to a Montgomery hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"We believe the perpetrators knew the victims or at least had knowledge that the people at the residence had been playing cards prior to the robbery," Johnson said. "They knew who had money and obviously had no problem using deadly force to remove it from their person."

Anyone with information on the two subjects is asked to call the Millbrook Police Department at 334-285-6832.
