SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

A Selma man is under arrest and charged with attempted murder after a shooting incident over the weekend. Selma Police say 18-year-old Alfred Parnell reportedly chased three women on foot before firing shots at them.

The shooting happened in the area of Memorial Avenue and Lauderdale Street in the late hours of March 21 and was apparently revenge for an alleged event a month earlier in which one of the woman is accused of cutting him in the chest. The wound is said to have been 12 inches in length.

"One of the women he was chasing apparently cut him across the chest about 12 inches long," Lt. Curtis Muhannad said. "We're still investigating to see if this was some kind of lover's triangle."

Nearby residents, like Wendell Lewis, did not quite know what to make of it.

"It got to the point where I didn't want to look outside," Lewis said.

Authorities say two of the victims were able to flee from Parnell Friday, but a third fell during the chase at which point she was held at gunpoint. The victim told police that as she was screaming, Parnell said, "Don't move (expletive) or I will kill you."

Parnell eventually ran from the scene.

"I don't know what went through his mind, but Parnell apparently considered what the woman said and fled," Lt. Muhannad said.

According to detectives, they learned that Parnell was inside a house in the 2100 block of Church Street. After issuing a search warrant, police uncovered the black 9mm Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun believed to have been used during the incident and arrested the suspect.

Investigators say what's even more troubling is residents minding their own business could have gotten hurt with those stray bullets.

"It's silly really and to be shooting at women, that's crazy," Lewis said.

Parnell is being charged with felony attempted murder and possession of marijuana second degree. Authorities say other charges may be filed.

Parnell is currently in the Dallas County Jail with a $250,000 bond.
