MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Exclusively on WSFA 12 News' Today in Alabama, the Montgomery Biscuits made a big announcement that Big Mo will no longer be lonely; he's getting a new friend, a micro pig!

WSFA 12 News Reporter Melissa Johnson interviewed Sherrie Myers, co-owner of the Biscuits, and the state AG commissioner live from Riverwalk Stadium Wednesday morning where they announced the big news.

Along with the new mascot, the Biscuits have also launched a contest for the public to help name the pig. Winners will be announced Saturday, April 5. You can compete to name the pig by submitting your entry for the name:

Officials say they are working with the Department of Agriculture to provide the best care for the new mascot.

"We've got a good plan in place as far as feeding, care, nutrition, housing, after hours care, veterinarian emergency care, if something gets sick or something happens here at the game," said Dr. Brad Fields, the official veterinarian for the Montgomery Biscuits. "There's always going to be people who have concerns, I can assure you the department of agriculture, the Montgomery Biscuits, and all the people involved have looked at all of these and have addressed any concerns that we have."

Biscuits leaders hope the new mascot and the Rays exhibition game will help increase attendance at the ballpark this year. The organization says that after ten years of existence, the crowds have started to dwindle and that could be a problem for the Biscuits down the road.

"Major League Baseball does constantly look at what the attendance is in relation to the level of the team and there are only 30 double A teams in the country," Myers said. "Montgomery is a little bit of a smaller market than would normally have been allowed to have a double A team. So, it's even more reason for us all to just make it a priority to attend two to three times a year."
