FOREST CITY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Forest City man who has been an archer since he was 4 years old, will now be hitting another life target: working part-time at Cabela's, helping archers improve their skill.

David Starnes will shoot the arrow that will split the ribbon on the day of Cabela's grand opening on Woodruff Road in Greenville. He won an in-store, inter-employee competition and he said he feels the pressure.

"You've got to learn to be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation," said Starnes of the shoot.

In August 2013, he won the South Carolina Open Pro Archery competition, but this state champion still feels nerves, especially before a big event like the April 3 ribbon-cutting at Cabela's.

"My dad, he used to get the Cabela's catalogue," he said. "And I said 'when I get older and I get a job, I'm going to buy everything in this catalogue.'"

"I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd get to ever work at Cabela's," he said, tears forming in his eyes as he thought of his dad, who died in 2007. "I wish he could be there."

Starnes said he and other skilled archers will be on staff to aid hunters and archers in improving their skills. Starnes called the staff "the best of the best."

The event begins at 10 a.m. on April 3. Read more about the grand opening event here.

Cabela's is an outdoors/recreational store that sells camping, hunting and fishing gear, among other outdoor items.
