BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A skull was discovered at an excavation site behind a Birmingham business on Thursday, police confirm.

The skull and another bone, both believed to be human, were found behind the Alabama Cabinet Co. on 3rd Avenue North, Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards said. Workers discovered the skeletal remains around 2:40 p.m. Thursday when they were cleaning in the area.

The coroner's office has been called in to investigation. Sgt. Edwards said no other information was available in the case until the coroner's office completes its investigation. A Birmingham police officer remains on site to protect the scene.
