TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

The driver in a deadly crash has been charged with vehicular homicide after Tuscaloosa police determined he was intoxicated at the time.

Lisandra Estrada Gonzalez, 47, was killed in the single-vehicle crash on the north end of Hugh Thomas Bridge around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the driver, 26-year-old Diego Francisco Diego, was traveling north bound and lost control. The vehicle hit a guard rail and came back across the road, then hit a concrete median.

"Its a possibility that he either blacked out or went to sleep, and thus letting the car veer off the road to the right, and once it struck the guard rail, he came back across and hit the center median," Sgt. Dale Phillips with the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit said.

Gonzalez was taken to DCH Hospital and later died from her injuries. A juvenile passenger was also injured in the wreck.

Authorities say Diego and Gonzalez were dating. According to officials, the child in the car at the time of the crash wasn't related to either Diego or Gonzalez.

Police determined Diego was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was charged with vehicular homicide and is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
