TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

One of the organizations formed after the deadly Jan. 8 shooting three years ago is doing its part to help empower students to end bullying.

The Step up, Speak out, End Bullying public service announcement contest deadline is today.

Fund for Civility, Understanding and Respect is the organization holding the contest, which was created in 2011 by Ron Barber, after the shooting. One of the missions for the organization is to promote civility, respect and understanding in order to improve the safety and well-being of the community.

There will be three categories open for the PSA contest - elementary, middle and high school.

The requirements for the video - it must be 30 seconds long, and show a compassionate response to both the bully and the target. The PSA should also promote the impact of intentional kindness and show how students can take care of their community by stepping up, speaking out and ending bullying.

Students interested in entering may do so via the website www.fundforcivility.org/psa-contest.  They will be able to upload their videos, which must be done by midnight today.

The winners of the contest will be picked in late April.  All submissions will be included in a montage at the Step Up, Speak Out, End Bullying Showcase and Awards event on May 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Loft Cinema. The winners will also be announced at the same event, and will be aired on TV and online during August and September.
