MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A mail carrier and two other people were hospitalized after a head-on collision in Morgan County Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the wreck happened on Highway 67 between Berry Road and Still Meadow Road. According to witnesses, the mail carrier stopped to put mail in a mailbox when a car came across the center of the lane and hit the carrier's vehicle head-on.

Witnesses said one of the vehicles involved clipped a motorcycle traveling down the highway. An eyewitness said he watched the driver of a white Hyundai go across the divider seconds before impact. "She [the mail carrier] was pinned in her car. The guy got out; he wanted to know what happened and where his kid was. He was the cause of it, and he hit a motorcycle that went down the street and parked," said Russell Harvey.

Harvey said the motorcycle bounced off the mail truck and came flying by him.

Authorities said the mail carrier was conscious and breathing when they airlifted her out. The conditions of the two other people have not been released.

Traffic was backed up for several miles in both directions as emergency crews worked the scene. The crash caused mail to scatter across the road. A Postal Service supervisor said they have people at the hospital looking after their carrier, as well as others finishing her route. She said all of the mail will be delivered.

State Troopers are investigating the crash.
