PIKE CO., AL (WSFA) -

A man convicted of forcibly raping and sodomizing a 15-year-old girl in Pike County will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley sentenced Mitchell Bernard Johnson on March 25, three months after a jury found the man guilty on both counts.

Johnson was arrested, charged and convicted for the October 14, 2010 rape of a girl in the Springhill Community.

Pike County District Attorney Tom Anderson praised the judge for the strong sentence saying it, "gives this victim a sense of justice and further serves as a message to would-be offenders that this will not be tolerated in Pike County."
