Controlled burn set for April 1 in Tuskegee National Forest

TUSKEGEE, AL -

The Tuskegee National Forest is planning an April 1 burn on approximately 800acres on Forest Service roads 900, 901, 902, 903, 913, 930, 948, CR 53,Hwy 29 and Hwy 186. 

During the burn,the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment. Smoke may also be visible on Highway 29,Highway 186 and I-85. If encountering smoke on roadways, please slow down, turnon your low-beam headlights and use caution.

The wind is expectedto be out of the South and carry the smoke to the North towards the interior ofthe forest around Exit 42 on I-85 and the Choctafaula Creek bottom. 

As the temperatures cool later in the day, thesmoke may begin to settle down in Choctafaula Creek Bottom along highway 186.Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn.

Remember, aprescribed burn is a controlled fire ignited by professionally trained andexperienced Forest Service personnel. Aprescribed burn is carefully planned to improve the health of your nationalforest.
