BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Opening day for Remy's Dog Park is fast approaching and there are still a few acres of land to clear at Red Mountain Park before June.

Volunteers are gearing up for a third "Doggie Work Day" this weekend to get the area ready.

Plans for the dog park include separate areas for large dogs, small dogs and special needs dogs, which includes elderly, shy or injured dogs. The park will offer drinking water, hoses for baths, open space for running and shade for resting, according to Red Mountain Park's website.

The work day will be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, April 5. Volunteers should meet at the Frankfurt Drive entrance (2011 Frankfurt Drive).

To sign up, email contact@redmountainpark.org or call 205-202-6043. You can find out more about Remy's Dog Park at www.redmountainpark.org.
