BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lt. Sean Edwards, it happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of 32nd Place North. Officers responded to the location and found the victim lying on the ground. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported him to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner as 27-year-old James Butler Redmon of Birmingham.

Investigators have detained a person of interest. No one has been arrested or charged in the case.
