BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The case of an Arizona mom who left her two young children in a vehicle while she interviewed for a job is drawing the attention of advocates in Birmingham.

Shanesha Taylor was arrested March 20 and charged with child abuse in the case.

"She was upset. This is a sad situation all around. She said she was homeless. She needed the job. Obviously, not getting the job. So it's just a sad situation," Scottsdale Police Sgt. Mark Clark told sister station KPHO.

Here in Birmingham, Jessie's Place is a center where homeless mothers can get the help they need to live independently. Jessie's Place Clinical Director Malissa Smitha says that the resources they offer should keep other mothers from reaching Taylor's situation.

"What we do is help woman who want to pursue their full potential," Smitha said. "That is not something that a woman in Birmingham, Ala. has to face because there are resources."

Smitha says when a woman seeks help at Jessie's Place, they can also accomodate her children.

"If the mother goes to a job interview, her children go to daycare," Smitha said.
