FORT HOOD, TEXAS (WSFA) -

An Alabama man who is stationed at Fort Hood is still in disbelief.

Army Specialist Drek Belyue, who is from Coosa County, says police are still on the scene tonight at Fort Hood. He says you can still see and hear sirens as this is still an active crime scene.

Drek said earlier today he actually saw police cars fly by him but at the time he had no idea a mass shooting had taken place.

Drek also tells WSFA 12 that the shooting occurred five buildings from him, within walking distance.

"We should not have to fear for our lives on American soil. We get killed more on American soil than we do on foreign land fighting the enemy or fighting foreign countries," Belyue said. "The shooting that took place in 2009 was right down the road from the shooting that took place today and I just don't understand how people get weapons on post. I would think they would step up the security and search for these things in people's vehicles."

We've gotten word tonight from Alabama Air National Guard Unit has no servicemen and women at Fort Hood. So that means no members of the 187th Fighter Wing Unit have been deployed and there are no near future plans of deployment to Fort Hood according to military officials.

Ft Rucker also released a statement today about the incident at Ft. Hood.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to our Fort Hood Family. At Fort Rucker, as always, we are taking prudent measures to protect our Soldiers, Families and civilian employees. Our post remains under normal operations, however, we will continue to monitor the situation for the latest information."
