Strong thunderstorms possible Friday

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Showers and thunderstorms will move in early Friday morning. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible as the line begins to move in.

Right now it looks like the threat will move into northwest Alabama between 4-7 a.m. The line will continue to slowly move east with very heavy rain and strong gusty winds.

It will move into the Huntsville Metro area between 6-9 a.m. and between 8-11 a.m. it will reach areas of northeast Alabama.

WAFF 48 Storm Team is streaming coverage on our weather and news apps. Coverage will continue on-air with WAFF 48 News Today.

We will also provide this information on our website. We will break into programming as necessary overnight.

The threat for tornadoes is low but we cannot rule out some lower end type tornadoes if the storms become severe.

The showers and storms will be on the way out early Friday afternoon with temperatures falling into the lower 70s with a west wind at 10-15 mph. You might need a jacket if you are out Friday night or early Saturday morning.  Overnight lows will drop into the 40s. Saturday will be a nice day with highs in the middle to upper 60s.

More rain and storms will move in late Sunday afternoon and continue into Monday morning.  Very heavy rain is likely with the weekend storm system. Right now we are monitoring the threat for some severe weather early Monday morning.

We will keep you up-to-date online, on air and on social media. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for instant weather updates.
